BIF Advisory Communication: Have Your Say
Building Performance: Have your say on recognising high quality overseas certified building products and standards
The Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) is seeking industry input on the content of new regulations needed to implement the Building (Overseas Building Products, Standards, and Certification Schemes) Amendment Bill (the Bill).
The regulations will contain the decision-making criteria which must be satisfied for an overseas certified building product or standard to be recognised for use in New Zealand.
Without regulations, changes being introduced by the Bill cannot be implemented and the current regulatory barriers to using high quality overseas building products will remain.
The criteria proposed by MBIE have been informed by a 2024 industry engagement and public submissions on the Bill to the Transport and Infrastructure Select Committee. The goal is for the regulations to:
enable a recognition regime to allow access to a wider range of new and innovative building productsprovide the necessary safeguards to mitigate the risk of products being used that could result in or contribute to building failure
Feedback via the below survey on the proposed criteria is currently being accepted and the regulations will be finalised in the third quarter of 2025.
You can complete the survey here.
This survey will be open until 5pm Thursday, 17 April 2025.
